Leaving the office and working for foreign companies are aspirations of many professionals, who find in freelance work an opportunity to manage their own schedules and even their own business.
A recent study revealed that freelancers represent 15% of the country’s entrepreneurial population, amid increasingly profound changes in the labor market, which include:
- Return to in-person work
- Layoff containment to mitigate employee turnover
- More personalized benefits tailored to each employee
- Strong interest from employers in Generation Z
In Argentina, despite the monetary context, hiring national talent from abroad has remained on the rise and the salaries paid in dollars remain the preferred option for the majority.
This was revealed by the global Human Resources and payroll management company Deel in their '2024 Global Hiring Outlook Report', which highlighted Argentina as the country in the region with the most workers hired by foreign companies.
In this regard, the country ranks within the global top five, in a ranking of 150 countries, and it has maintained that position for the third consecutive year.
The hires made through its job platform for working abroad grew 54% in the last year and Argentine talent is mostly sought after by companies from the US and Mexico. In the past year, other companies have joined from Paraguay, France and India.

Johanna Picciano, Communications Director for Latin America at Deel, highlights in iProUP the quality of Argentine professionals in «academic terms».
"These data show that Argentines’ interest in accessing opportunities abroad from the comfort of their homes remains strong. Beyond a currently stable peso-dollar exchange rate, when looking for a job, people make a long-term investment, and in a country with so much unpredictability, many still feel safer with a salary in hard currency," the spokesperson emphasizes.
Argentine freelancers still prefer the dollar, despite the currency remaining stable.
A key fact to understand the prevalence of the US dollar when it comes to receiving their fees: The 94% of those Argentine professionals working for global companies received their payments in dollars, while only 6% preferred pesos.
Also, the number of Argentine companies that hired global talent in 2024 increased by 14%, mainly in USA, Uruguay and Chile and in its majority to systems engineers.
For its part, the report highlights that Buenos Aires ranks first in the list of the most chosen cities worldwide for remote work with global companies, followed by:
- London
- Bogota
- Lahora (Pakistan)
- São Paulo
Meanwhile, Córdoba and Rosario are ranked eighth and ninth, that is no longer necessary to relocate to access the best opportunities.
Beyond IT positions, one of the roles with the highest growth in demand is that of accountants.
Although the role is in higher demand in countries such as Philipines and US, it shows that in the last year hiring of Argentine accountants to work for foreign companies increased by 87%, with a 15% average increase in dollars.
Analyzing the age ranges of people hired in Argentina through Deel, it is observed that in the past year, the fastest-growing hires were from Generation Z (112%), followed by Millennials (54%) and Generation X (37%). The percentage of Boomers hired increased by a smaller margin (10%).
Along these lines, salaries of Argentina’s Generation Z saw the highest increase in the analyzed period.
Among other data, the 82% of all hires through the Deel platform remain remote, while contract terminations or layoffs are beginning to decrease in 21%, following the peak observed in 2023.
